$579.146 MILLION PESOS FOR ADDITIONAL DEFENSE BUDGET

Bogotá, Aug 30 (CNE).- The Government approved an addition of the National General Budget for El 579.146 million pesos to finance defense expenses.
The decision was taken in the frame of the Limited State of Emergency and seeks to bring resources to the Military and Police Forces and thus strength the Democratic Security strategy.

This amount of money will be distributed among Defense, Interior and Treasury Ministry, and National Police, in this way:
- 496.226 million pesos will be given to Defense Ministry for security building and improvement purposes, as well as buying of equipment among others activities of strengthening of the National Security.
- - 61.920 million pesos for purchase or production of equipment and for National Police usual labors.

- 16 thousand million pesos to the Interior Ministry that supports activities belonging to the security strategy.
- 5 thousand million pesos for the Treasury Ministry, which also support activities belonging to the security strategy.

According to the Law 179 of 1994, additional credits and transfers to the General Budget of the Nation to cover expenses generated for the extraordinary measures, must be done by the Government.

The Democratic Security strategy proposed by the President Uribe’s Government seeks to get back the confidence in the country’s economy and bring tranquility to the investors, Colombians and foreigners, to promote a growth recovery and increase employment’s generation.
