PRESIDENT URIBE REQUESTS COLOMBIANS A GREATER TRIBUTARY EFFORT
Medellín, December 11 (CNE) – President Álvaro Uribe requested Colombians to make a greater tributary effort. This, in order to count with more resources for Security, Health, Education, and Economy. The Head of State said that he’ll request the Congress the approval of various articles of the Tributary Reform, especially the ones that were denied or not discussed by the Economic Commissions.
“The Tributary Reform needs some adjustments. Consequently, the Senate and Chamber of Representants must approve five or six aspects that weren’t approved by the commissions. We must all contribute a bit more,” Uribe expressed.
One of the measurements that the President will ask the commissions to approve is the establishment of a 2% BAT for all the goods and services that currently don’t need to pay this tax, including the products of the family shopping basket.
“Paying taxes is uncomfortable, I know, but our compromise with the Nation is very big,” the Head of State assured.
Another petition that Uribe will request the Congress’ economic commissions is the rise of the beer’s BAT to an 8% or 11%.
The President will also ask the congressmen to adjust the tributary system of cooperatives, in order to obtain additional resources to finance a formal education.
“We will be able to finance education, health, and businesses if we defeat corruption, bureaucracy, and political maneuvering; if we close some embassies and consulates; and perhaps, if we improve our incomes by making some sacrifices,” Uribe pointed out.
“I trust in the Congress, and I truly believe we’ll offer the country these necessary reforms,” the President concluded.
