Head of State thanked congressmen for supporting Referendum

Chinácota, November 21 (CNE) – President Álvaro Uribe recognized today the backing that congressmen from Norte del Santander has given to the Referendum.
During the commemoration of the 100 years of the Treaty of Chinácota, the Head of State underscored the compromise that the department’s legislators have demonstrated towards the project destined to improve the Colombian situation.
"I thank the parliamentarians of Norte del Santander that have supported the Referendum’s development, project that seeks the reduction of the Congress’ size to save money and use those same resources for social purposes," the President manifested.
Likewise, he added: "The Referendum will also lower high pensions. It is not fair that, while one million poor elderly men and women do not count with the State’s attention, other individuals enjoy privileged pensions."
Uribe pointed out that his initiative pretends to close finance offices and legal capacities, and expressed that the budget that was destined to these entities will be used to finance education.
"Through the Referendum we must assign in a better way the resources of the Royalty Fund in order to attend efficiently the problems related to aqueducts and drains. Likewise, through this project, me must consecrate the political death of corrupts," the Head of State mentioned.
Finally, the civil servant said that this project will count with the backup of all Colombians if the Government sets an example of austerity: "We will make sacrifices in order to overcome the State’s current crisis. We can not make miracles in four years, but if we advance in the matter, the country shall take the road to progress," the Head of State sustained.
