Londres, 29 dic (SP). El Gobierno del Reino Unido, mediante una declaración del Ministro Chris Bryant, rechazó el secuestro y el posterior asesinato del Gobernador de Caquetá, Luis Francisco Cuéllar, por parte de las Farc.

Igualmente, expresó sus condolencias al Gobierno de Colombia, a los caqueteños y a los familiares de quienes fueron asesinados, y exigió la inmediata e incondicional liberación de los secuestrados.

El siguiente es el texto en inglés de la declaración:

"The British Government was shocked and saddened to hear the appalling news of the murders of the governor of Caquetá Province Mr. Luis Francisco Cuéllar Carvajal, and of the policeman Javier García Gutiérrez in Colombia yesterday. Such cowardly and illegitimate acts have no place in a civilised society and the British Government utterly rejects all such kidnappings and extrajudicial murders as violations of the right to life and international humanitarian law, and once again calls on all illegal armed groups to release all hostages immediately and unconditionally.

On behalf of the British Government, I extend our sincerest condolences to the Colombian Government, the people of Caquetá and the family of those murdered."
