Colombia and Brazil fulfill the world’s requirements for Biofuels production

Brasilia, February 17th, (SP). “I think that Brazil and Colombia can tell to the World that we fulfill the global requirements for the biofuel production, because we have two commitments: taking care of our tropical rain forests and guarantee our food security”, said President Alvaro Uribe during a press conference at the end of a meeting with the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

According to the President, Brazil and Colombia has stated, and are achieving, that their main contribution to fight global warming is taking care of the Amazon Jungle, without having an effect on food security
.
“We can stand for our biofuel policy, because neither of the two countries attempt against the food security. Fortunately our agricultural boundary allows us to have large growth in the field of food security, and a large growth in the field of biofuels production” the Head of State explained.

“The effort that we are making in Colombia is that the biofuel policy, can not be an exclusive matter for the big factories, but also that we could have small factories with high productivity, in zones of small properties, so a rural owner can have access to a fabric of ethanol or biodiesel with his products”, he said.

And he finished “We have to make a big joint effort to be able to develop solar power, wind power. That way, those technologies can develop and reduce its costs, and we could give more opportunities to our countries and to the world” .
