He reminded that Colombia, along with Switzerland, voluntarily presented the Periodic Exam of Human Rights at the United Nations and he pointed that the Government is very worried about extrajudicial executions.
Bogotá, April 20 (SP). “There is no other country that I know, which has taken the measures that Colombia has taken in the field of Human Rights , specially for extrajudicial executions”, stated the Foreign Secretary Jaime Bermúdez Merizalde.
“Tell me which country of the world, which President, demands his Defense Minister and government’s employees to respond to Human Rights’ denounces in public, live on television”, he asked.
“I don’t know any other country that assumes that transparency position in that way”, he expressed and he added that “we need to improve and move forward, but we will move on along with the tools that we have to do it, and trade and investment are one of the tools to support the improvements in Human Rights”.
He reminded that Colombia, along with Switzerland, voluntarily presented the Periodic Exam of Human Rights at the United Nations. “President Uribe, in his administrative arbitrary power, dissociated around 38 members of the Armed Forces, including two Generals and three coronels, based on the preliminary information that he had for those cases”.
“We are one of the most worried about the extrajudicial executions cases. According to the Defense Minister, since October there has been no additional cases”, confirmed the Foreign Secretary.
He added that “Colombia has taken the required and correct measures, and we are going to continue with that. We are determined to move forward with the Democratic Security Policy along with total protection of Human Rights”, he pointed. |
