The leader highlighted the importance of keeping investment trust for the moment when the international crisis end. “In Colombia, despite of the crisis, we have preserved a good flow of investment, and even if the crisis gets so profound and long to make all the investment to be suspended, we have to preserve investment trust with social responsibility”, he said.

Cartagena, April 24 (SP). Colombia is now in the world’s top of investment trust, pointed President Álvaro Uribe Vélez at the II International Congress “The actual economic and financial surroundings and its influence in the pensions system”

The Head of State emphasized in the importance of keeping investment trust for the moment when the crisis ends, during his speech of the event organized by the Colombian Association of  Pension Funds and Severance Payment (Asofondos) in Cartagena.

“Some citizens say to me: President ¿Why so much worry about investment trust, if this year and probably next year due to crisis, there will be no investment in the countries that have no trust and nor in the ones that have it, as Colombia?” Uribe Vélez explained.

He added that there is a justification because “once we begin to overcome crisis, investment will not get to those places where a whole universe of distrust have been created, but where trust is in. And Colombia is now in the world’s top of investment trust”
“I think that all authorized spokesmen say so, and the numbers also indicate that”, the leader expressed.

He highlighted that “In Colombia, despite of the crisis, we have preserved a good flow of investment, and even if the crisis gets so profound and long to make all the investment to be suspended, we have to preserve investment trust with social responsibility”.

The Colombian President remarked that the country closed the State financing for 2009 and began the financing for 2010 with the recent emission of 1000 million dollars.

He also talked about the credit given to Colombia by the International Monetary Fund, for 10 thousand and 400 million dollars, to be used if the national economic circumstances require to. 

“I think that those are great news for the trust that they have in the country”, he said.

Uribe also highlighted the growth of foreign investment, which last year was up to 10.564 million dollars, 54 percent in mining and oil industry and 46 percent in other fields of economy.

“We see a higher foreign investment, steadier and more irrigated, and we think that trust have helped to keep a higher and steadier flow of investment”, he spoke.

He pointed that for three years, investment has been growing over 25% a year and he added that “we have to make an effort to keep this”

Also, President Uribe talked about the projects to generate 4.000 megawatts and he underlined that “until now we have no reports of lack of financing” to develop these plans.
