President Álvaro Uribe also indicated that the effort to integrate the countries should be oriented to get better democratic standards. The Head of State said that the National Government had been working so democracy can be reflected in security, freedoms, social cohesion, institutional independence and transparency.
Cartagena, Aug 27 (SP). The continent’s integration has to be within diversity, recognizing each other’s values as complements, President Uribe stressed on Thursday.
The Leader spoke from the opening act of the Presidents of Judicial Powers Summit of Unasur in Cartagena, and pointed that that the effort to integrate the countries should be oriented to get better democratic standards.
“We had been working so democracy can be expressed with five parameters: security, freedoms, social cohesion, institutional independence and transparency”, he pointed.
The Head of State said that is not sane to keep artificial and polarizing divisions, because it causes great damages.
“Nowadays, when the world is committed to spin around democracy, keep the old division is polarizing, it does not bring practical results to promote integration”, the Leader said.
President Uribe reiterated that the continent has moved forward to overcome the division between left and right-wing parties, faced by some dictatorial governments some years ago. |
