The Head of State of Colombia highlighted the leadership of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the South American integration through Unasur. He also thanked the President of Brazil for understanding the need of Colombia to move forward with a security policy to demand the end of terrorist actions by the Farc.
Brazilia, February 17th, (SP). President Alvaro Uribe Vélez expressed in person his gratitude to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil for the “efficient and timely” support that he gave in the recent liberation of 6 kidnapped people.
“Thank you very much for the efficient and timely cooperation that you have given to Colombia, to the families of our kidnapped people, with that discrete and efficient support of Brazil to the International Red Cross”, said the Head of State at the end of a meeting with Lula, during his official visit to Brazil.
Uribe Vélez emphasized that the government of Brazil has always understand the need of Colombia for a democratic security policy.
“You (President Lula) have helped us to build confidence in Colombia. You have helped us for the world to understand that peace can not be seek without security, that security is a democratic value, a source of resources. That security is neither an axiom of the right nor a denial of the left, but an imperative of democracy”, spoke the Colombian Head of State.
He also pointed that President Lula da Silva has been clear about the possibility of reaching a peace process with the FARC, as long as that guerrilla quit their violent actions.
“Thank you for your willingness, the constant willingness of your government to collaborate in the search for security and peace with the government of Colombia”, he said.
Unasur
The President of Colombia also highlighted the leadership that Lula da Silva has had in all that have to do with South American integration, trough Unasur.
“South American union appeared explicitly in the Constitutions of many of our countries. In the Constitution of Colombia it is written that it must be follow and a priority the integration with South America. But the integration was not moving forward, it was just speech material” he pointed.
In concern to Colombia, Brazil’s government has been fundamental –Uribe said- for the country to be a member of a result of the South American Union.
“Because, there was an agreement of some matters that are basic to us, like repel of any violent organization and the need to reach consensus.”
