Sao Paulo, Brazil, February 16th (SP). “I am worried about perpetuating the President. But I can not be politically irresponsible either. Then, I have to look with close political responsibility, that at least these fundamental ideas, without prejudice of being improved, could keep running Colombia.

That was the answer of the President Alvaro Uribe Velez this Monday, to the question about the possibility of a third term of office, made by one of the attendees of the meeting of members of the Business Leaders Association of Brazil (Lide) in Sao Paulo. The Head of State is in Brazil for an official visit.

The Head of State, who is on an official visit in this country, reminded that he arrived to the Presidency on 2002 “due to a rebellion against 40 years of insecurity” and pointed that he does not want anyone to think that, instead of love for Colombia, there is a power ambition motivation.

“My generation has not lived a period of peace, has not lived a steady period of prosperity, has not lived a steady period of beating poverty. That also makes me be very careful about thinking of the political future of my country”, recall the Head of State.

“I am going to answer you with my heart:

I arrived to the Presidency due to a rebellion against 40 years of insecurity. Then, I feel some soul limitations. I want to encourage the new generations to feel love for Colombia. Our wish is that new generations can live happy in Colombia. And I do not want people to think that instead of love for Colombia, there is a power ambition motivation. That worries me. That is why; I am worried to perpetuate the President.

But, I can not be politically irresponsible either. Then, I have to look with close political responsibility that at least these fundamental ideas, without prejudice of being improved, could keep running Colombia.
My generation has not lived a full day of peace. And, in the economic and social fields, we have seen that persistence of violence has kept away investment and has subject us more to poverty.
