The Colombian Head of State reiterated that during his meeting with the President of the United States, Barack Obama, last week he found him “much more optimistic” and is confident about the progress of the agreement.
Sun Valley, Idaho, United States, July 9 (SP). “The approval of the Free Trade Agreement with the United States is a sign of confidence in our country”, President Álvaro Uribe Vélez said this Thursday at the Allen & Company Annual Conference in Sun Valley.
According to the Colombian Leader “the only way for Colombia to turnaround is keeping a sustainable and high investment rate” and the approval of the FTA will help the country in this matter.
He pointed how many investors around the world are asking why the United States have not approved the agreement with Colombia. “The United States must consider that in this moment we need the approval as an expression of confidence to the investors in our country” he reiterated.
He informed that during his meeting with the President of the United States, Barack Obama, last week he found him “much more optimistic” and he said that he is confident about the progress of the agreement.
“I found President Obama much more optimistic last week”, he said.
He also talked about the increase of trade agreements with different countries of the world as a mechanism to bring investment to the country.
“At the beginning of our administration Colombia had agreements only with the Andeans countries and with México. I am here today with the Minister of Commerce and this year we are going to close agreements with 49 countries”, he pointed. |
