“All countries must help in the fight against illegal drugs, because all countries have joint responsibility, because they all are either consumers or producers”, the Head of State said at the International Economic Forum of the Americas in Montreal.
Montreal, Canada, June 10 (SP). Joint responsibility is something that countries should not diminish, but increase, because the use of illegal drugs is very serious in the entire world, President Álvaro Uribe Vélez declared from Montreal.
That was the answer of the Colombian President to a question made by a journalist about resources of Plan Colombia and the fight against drug trafficking, at the Americas Forum held in Canada.
“Plan Colombia has helped to solve the problem of drugs and all countries should help because all countries have joint responsibility, because they all are either consumers or producers”, the Leader said.
He explained that Colombia is not only a producer country, but now they are very worried about the use of drugs, and that is why a constitutional reform is been processed to penalize personal dose.
“Joint responsibility is something that should not diminish, but increase, because the use of illegal drugs is very serious in the entire world”, Uribe said.
He explained that the country has made its best efforts in the field of security with its own resources.
“We set two extraordinary taxes for more solvent Colombians. One tax was on September 2002, and the other was the tributary reform on December 2006. We have financed all the additions to security with these two taxes, pay by the most solvent sectors of the country”, Uribe Vélez finished. |
