After the meeting held with the North American Head of State, Barck Obama, President Álvaro Uribe said to the press at the White House: “We are open, we are very receptive to receive any advise, any suggestion that help us see how we can get to our goal of zero violations of human rights in Colombia”.
Washington, June 29 (SP). “We are open, we are very receptive to receive any advise, any suggestion that help us see how we can get to our goal of zero violations of human rights in Colombia”, President Uribe said to the press from the White House, when he was speaking about his meeting with the American Leader Barack Obama.
The Colombian Head of State reminded that Colombia is a rule of law and said that the Armed Forces members must understand that “we need credibility for the Democratic Security Policy”.
“I am a person with the duty to support our Armed Forces, but for the honor, every soldier, every policeman must understand that we need credibility for this Democratic Security Policy. A sense of credibility based on effectiveness and transparency, and transparency is a matter of human rights” he said.
He pointed that during the meeting with President Obama, they talked about different topics related to security, investment trust and social cohesion, key policies of his Government.
“I made some comments to President Obama about confidence in Colombia, about security, the progress and the problems we still face; about investment and its relation with the Free Trade Agreement and the need to build confidence in Colombia. Also about social cohesion, advances in education, in micro lending, in health; the problems we still have, the problem of poverty, income distribution and human rights topics”.
The Colombian Head of State insisted that his Government has all the determination to move forward in security, human rights, State restructuration, investment trust and social cohesion, and for that “it is very important to have permanent support from President Obama, from the Government of the United States and the Congress of the United States”.
