The President of Honduras highlighted the fight of Colombia against terrorism.


The Head of State of Honduras said that the fight against crime, drug trafficking and terrorism, undertaken by President Uribe’s administration is an instrument to guarantee freedom and security not only for Colombia, but for America. 

San Pedro Sula, Honduras, March 16 (SP). The President of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya Rosales, underlined the measures implemented by the Democratic Security Policy of the Government of Alvaro Uribe Velez, and described it as tools for freedom and democracy for the continent.

The Honduran leader spoke at the decoration ceremony in which the Colombian President received the “Francisco Morazán Order”, Great Cross level, Golden Plaque and Fist Class Band.

“We enhance the remarkable history of our countries, and the remarkable future that you, Mr. President, have put into the invincible destiny of the fight for freedom and democracy of Colombia and America”, said President Zelaya.

He added that the security plan of his Colombian counterpart has created an effective cooperation between both nations, facing organized crime and becoming a model for Honduras.

“In the field of Democratic Security, Colombia has developed an excellent work, the successful fight against organized crime networks, can be a great contribution to us Hondurans”, pointed the Central American Head of State.

In addition he said that the integral and multiple policies that Colombia has implemented to prevent and control crime, the penalty system and the reintegration of illegal group members to the society, are one of the many procedures that the government is carrying out.   

President Zelaya also emphasized of the strengthening of the economical relations between Colombia and Honduras, especially in all that has to do with new energy alternatives.

“Since President Uribe arrived to the group called Mesoamerica, before called Plan Puebla-Panamá, to share the progress of Colombia with Biofuel, especially in fuel production, we are interested in developing that same policy”, President Zelaya said.
