From Honduras, President Uribe asks for International Community support to fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.

After being decorated by the Presidency and Congress of Honduras, the Head of State considered that fighting drug trafficking needs everybody’s help. “Today, from Honduras we ask for the support of the international community, to continue in this battle motivated. We all need to cooperate”, President Uribe said.

San Pedro Sula, March 16 (SP). The President of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe Velez, requested, once again the support of the international community to defeat drug trafficking and terrorism in a joint work.

“We all need to cooperate. Terrorism has no heart, no selectivity, terrorism is not loyal. One day it murders in Colombia, and the next day, when it feels uncomfortable, murders anywhere beyond Colombia’s borders. We all have to defeat it”, Uribe Velez said.

In his speech, after being decorated by the Presidency and the Congress of Honduras, the Head of Stated pointed that the fight against drug trafficking has progress, but it has not been won, and that is why we need everybody’s help.

“Our fight against drug trafficking has moved forward, but we still have a long way to run. We are winning, but we have not won. And that is a very dangerous weed, drug trafficking has all the ability to reproduce itself if you don’t watch out. We have to be aware all the time”

“Colombia still has 100 thousand hectares of drug crops, and we still have very dangerous cartels. So, we have to continue fighting, and not by ourselves. We need help from the United Stated and all the international community”, said Uribe Velez. He added that if Colombia was not victim of drug trafficking “there wouldn’t be guerrillas a long time ago”, plus “the country wouldn’t be victim of paramilitarism”.

The President also said that now in Colombia, unlike before, there is “narco” terrorism against democracy and not against a dictatorship.

“You have lived in Honduras insurgency against dictatorships. In Colombia we have “narco” terrorism against democracy. There is a difference, which is why we ask international community to help us continue motivated in this battle”.

“We are very enthusiastic to be able to progress with our Central American brothers, with Honduras, to defeat drug trafficking, which is the source of money of terrorism” he pointed. Also, he explained that Colombia has not succeed with peace negotiations, because violent groups subsist from drug trafficking.

“That business has to be defeated, that business does not respect borders. This has bring us to reality”

Support to other countries

President Alvaro Uribe also insisted on the need of helping other countries, which suffer now because of drug trafficking and terrorism. That way, Colombia is willing to work coordinated with other countries to defeat it.

“We all have to help and support Mexico in its battle and Colombia with other Central American countries who also are victims of this suffering, want to help, work with coordination” he pointed.

The Head of State said that this fight has to be fought with brotherhood, because it is an international crime and attempt against the safety of the countries.

“Does security need resources? Yes. Does security need logistic? Yes, but I would say that what it needs the most is political will, determination every time”.
