“These agreements guarantee better employment conditions, because it works along with constitutional principles and the Labor Code to assure, trough the control of the counterpart country, that the other country fulfills all the employment obligations.
Bogotá, May 18 (SP). President Álvaro Uribe pointed that treaties like the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Chile, officially presented this Monday in Bogotá, are “guarantees for better employment conditions”.
The Head of State expressed this during the ‘FTA Colombia – Chile: Strengthening and Expansion of Bi national Commerce’ Seminary, which took place in the Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada Convention Center.
“These agreements guarantee better employment conditions, because they work along with constitutional principles and the Labor Code to assure, trough the control of the counterpart country, that the other country fulfills all the employment obligations”, he said.
The President explained that this is a cutting-age agreement because it includes fields of commerce, services, government’s purchase and investment.
“This FTA says to the numerous Chilean investors who are in Colombia: keep investing, because now you can count with another tool to support you, this agreement. And also for all Colombian investors who are in Chile. This integration between both countries is great: efficient in the real world and in the material one, not just rhetoric”, he added.
President Uribe thanked his counterpart of Chile, Michell Bachelet for the efficient and prompt negotiation of the agreement, and showed admiration for the Chilean people, its democracy and its economic progress.
“I remember our first meetings with President Michell Bachelet, her diligence, her practical sense, her capacity to simplify big subjects and her ability to solve everything fast”, he said.
At the end, President Uribe highlighted the words of the Foreign Secretary of Chile, Mariano Fernández, about the signature and presentation of the FTA: “this is the most profound agreement that Chile has signed with a South American Country”. |
