President Uribe reiterated guarantees for the release of kidnapped people, but he informed that terrorist propaganda will not be allowed

“Now what we must demand from the Farc is the liberation of the kidnapped people, because they want to transform the pain, the case of soldier Moncayo and the other 23 who are in captivity, in an opportunity to make some sectors of the public opinion to push the Government so the Government can play along with terrorism” the Head of State pointed.

Bogotá, May 11 (SP). The President of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe Vélez reiterated this Monday that the Government offers guarantees for the liberation of the kidnapped members of the Armed Forces, but he warned that it will not be allowed “that a liberation, little by little, of those who must never be kidnapped, be used as a propaganda strategy of terrorism”.

The Head of State made the warning at the ‘General Santander’ Police Cadets School, where he led the promotion ceremony of 109 cadets, decorated some Police Officers and promoted to major general the coronel Luis Herlindo Mendieta Ovalle, kidnapped by the Farc on November 1st of 1998.

“Now what we must demand from the Farc is the liberation of the kidnapped people, because they want to transform the pain, the case of soldier Moncayo and the other 23 who are in captivity, in an opportunity to make some sectors of the public opinion to push the Government so the Government can play along with terrorism” he expressed.

He added that “the Government will not play that game. What we have to demand is their freedom”

He highlighted that the Government has not put any obstacles for the International Red Cross and the Catholic Church negotiations.
“And we also reiterate our will, without obstacles from our military operations, to support the presence of the International Red Cross and the Catholic Church in the place where ‘narco-terrorists’ state, to receive soldier (Pablo Emilio) Moncayo back to freedom. All our commitment to move forward in the military and police operations to advance in the liberation of kidnapped people” he said.

The Leader underlined that “one of the goals of Democratic Security is to avoid that terrorism could traffic with peace”.

He reminded that the Government has “authorized several Colombians and foreigners as peace facilitators. There was practically no one single case where facilitators were denied”.

But he pointed that “each time we have elections coming, the Farc terrorists try to fool the country with dialogue”

“We must stay strong, among debate and politic difficulties. The Government must be a model for that. The Government must show itself as the stronger”, he expressed.

“Today, we reiterate that, with the Army, the Police and all our Forces, will continue doing everything we can so our Armed Forces can liberate them some day”, President Uribe Vélez finished.
