“I am very impressed with the Government’s program, with economic stability and the measures implemented to face the crisis, as well as the effort made to achieve peace and development”, expressed the Manager Director of the World Bank, Juan José Daboub, at the end of his visit to the country.

Bogota, May 7 (SP). The Manager Director of the World Bank (WB), Juan José Daboub, praised the work of Álvaro Uribe’s Government to face the global crisis and expressed the multilateral organization’s will to continue cooperating with Colombia, country that he labeled as an example in Latin America.

“Colombia is an example in Latin America. I am very impressed with the Government’s program, with economic stability and the measures implemented to face the crisis, as well as the effort made to achieve peace and development”, Salvadorian Daboub said, at the end of his three day visit to the country, according to a press release of the WB.

The executive of the WB participated in the first International Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Congress, held from May 4th to the 6th in Cartagena and had a meeting with President Uribe.

He highlighted “the commitment and good will of the actors involved” in the Disarmament Congress and pointed that “it is a sign of a promising future for Colombians, despite of the obstacles that must be handled”.

Colombia, third receptor of the WB in Latin America

Juan José Daboub said that Colombia is in the third regional place in volumes of financial resources and technical support received from the WB, after Brazil and Mexico, and is in the seventh place of the world.

In addition, he expressed that “Colombian private industry is very dynamic and if competitiveness continues with its improvement, Colombia will not stop”.

He quoted the projects that the International Financial Corporation is backing in Colombia, an institution of the WB that finances private industry, and announced that it “will continue its work with small, medium and big business. Those are the ones that generates employment and employment is the best instrument against poverty”.

“I have seen a spark of hope in the eyes and the smile of the children. This generation must live in peace and realize its higher aspirations” Daboub concluded.
