The Government must equally reject extrajudicial killings and false reports, the Head of State said.

President Uribe revealed that of all the reports received on October 29; only one case could have had violation of human rights and asked for rigorousness to avoid false reports.

Bogotá, May 4 (SP). “The Government has to be as strict to avoid, condemn, and sanction extrajudicial killings as to denounce false reports that hurt our Democratic Security policy so much” President Álvaro Uribe Vélez said.

The announcement was made by the leader during the sixth balance statement of human rights, after revealing that of 85 reports received last October, only in one case it is possible to found violation of human rights.

“There are 85 cases in which justice found no evidence to continue with the investigation and sent them back to the Military Penal Justice. Seven timebar, four ruling of non imprisonment, and one non guilty ruling”, he pointed.

He said that all those cases were reported as extrajudicial killings and what has been proved is that “there are a lot of false reports”, and added that “we also have the obligation to prevent false reports, because there are careless people who want to discredit the Democratic Security Policy”.

According to President Uribe, those kind of reports are done by people who are not able to have a public debate about the progress of the Democratic Security policy.

“As they don’t dare to oppose the Democratic Security policy in public, then they just blame it to be a policy that violates human rights and present false reports trying to typify cases as extrajudicial killings”, he expressed.

The leader clarified that there is just one case with a probable human rights violation at the region of Caucasia (Antioquia), and it is been investigated.

“According to de report, this case could have happened on December 26 2008. As soon as we have the information, it is convenient to give it to the public opinion”, he underlined.

The Head of State led the balance statement of human rights at the Casa de Nariño, with the Defense Minister, Juan Manuel Santos and the Military and Police leadership.

At the meeting, 10 reports were studied for some possible irregularities by the Armed Forces.
