The Mexican leader said that just as Colombia have successfully faced crime; his country is also doing it. He also declared that the attack of the Farc against the Town Council and people of Garzón municipality (Huila) was a coward act.
Medellín, May 30 (SP). The President of Mexico, Felipe Calderón, highlighted the work of his Colombian counterpart Government, Ávaro Uribe Vélez, in the fight against terrorism and crime.
During the closure of the ‘Fifth International Conference about Victims of Terrorism’, held in Medellín, the Mexican Head of State praised the progress in the field of security and pointed that his country is following the same path.
“One day, Colombia thought that everything was lost. Colombia made it, of course, and because it is possible we are going to and are doing it also in our beloved Mexico”, President Calderón stated.
In his declaration, President Calderón also said that the attack of the Farc against the Town Council and people of Garzón municipality (Huila) was a coward act.
In that way he condemned “the fear that this attack pretends to create, from the harassment or the kidnapping of a councilor”.
He also said how dangerous is if the fear persists in the world and governors, because they are the ones in charge and responsible for facing the crime.
“We can not allow that the work to fight crime stops for fear, for political reasons or for any other reason”, the Mexican leader underlined.
In addition, he insisted that terrorism is the worst threat for international peace and safety, and he called for the union and effort of societies and the countries of the world to fight this trouble.
“This mix of fear, terror, paralysis, impunity and crime has to stop, and that is when the Government must be responsible to face it, despite the difficulty, the terror and the cost that violence and its fear means. That is why determination, bravery and courage are important for the person that the people elected to govern” Calderón finished. |
