“Spain – along with the international community – is aware of the great efforts made by your country in the last years”, Prince Felipe told President Álvaro Uribe Vélez.

Bogotá, May 27 (SP). The Prince of Asturias, Felipe de Borbón, said that Colombia “ in the fight against terrorism, against drug trafficking and supporting strong democratic values, will always count on Spain with a strong and determined support”

In his speech, during the dinner hosted by President Álvaro Uribe at the Casa de Nariño, Prince Felipe thanked the Government and the Colombian people for all the honors received along with his wife, Princess Letizia Ortiz, during his five day visit to the country, which began on Tuesday.

He added that “the achievements of Colombia in the eradication of violence are evident and globally well known,”.

“Spain – along with the international community – is aware of the great efforts made by your country in the last years. Efforts to extend an effective and real control of the State over the entire national territory; to strength its democratic institutions; to consolidate the Rule of Law and legal security, and face the social challenges of this Andean land”, the Prince pointed. 

He also talked about the Fifth International Conference to honor and support the victims of terrorism, which will be hold this Friday in Medellín and where the Prince will go with President Uribe.

“Our affection is and will always be with them, as a model and reference in our determination to end with that course and threat in all its expressions, modalities, sources or alibis”, he said.

At the end, Prince Felipe de Borbón pointed that in the field of cooperation they are committed to Colombia, by projects dedicated to reinforce democratic governance and to promote human rights, peace culture, men and women equality, sustainable economic development, environment protection, and patrimony as promoter for development.
