President Uribe pointed urgent need to increase asset seizure over drug sale

According to the Head of State it is necessary to increase those actions, while the Congress of the Republic makes the procedure for the legislative act to penalize personal dose.

Bogota, Sep 30 (SP). President Álvaro Uribe asked to increase asset seizure actions over properties used for drug sale and be rigorous about the Police Code, which forbids drug consumption in public places and in front of minors.

The Head of State explained that asset seizure and the Police Code must be more rigorous, while the Congress makes the procedure for the legislative act to penalize personal dose.

“I am concerned about the lack of applicability of the Police Code in these matters. If you think, consumption is forbidden in public places and in front of minors, and we see that is not being followed”, he said.

Uribe Vélez added that those measures will help to fight micro-traffic, which is what has been affecting minors and leading them to crime.

He also reminded personal dose penalization does not mean that addicts will be taken to jail, but on the contrary, it creates a system of professional help for those cases.

“The current Constitutional reform just makes it illegal and defines that addict people, with a health problem, have to be managed with public health solutions, not judicial solutions. But a judicial solution is needed for those criminals who are leading children into micro-traffic”, the Leader said.
